Hardest Bar To Get Into (But Overrated)

ghostbar at W Hotel, Dallas

Pretty people, pretty bar: A peek inside the sometimes insufferable ghostbar

Find it: 2440 Victory Park Lane, Dallas; 214-397-4100; www.n9negroup.com

The back story: When this much-anticipated offshoot of the iconic Las Vegas hotspot opened in 2006, it instantly emerged as Dallas’ must-be-there spot. Located at the top of the W Hotel, the bar is an admittedly impressive on the eyes: The main room features gleaming chrome and plush sofas, all of it so moodily lit you’ll think you stepped onto the set of a Vogue cover shoot. (The patrons populating the place at the time weren’t too shabby looking, either.) But the crowds quickly became overbearing, leading some of us to wonder why we were spending upwards of $20 just to step inside this cacaphous lair, where we then were expected to pay as much $15 for a watered-down drink. Adding insult to injury, the place reeks of Dallitude -- unless you look like Brad or Angelina, you ain’t getting laid.

If you still insist on going: Dress in your most expensive Dior or Prada. (This is the kind of place where labels impress.) And try to get the before 9 p.m. -- lest you get stuck in the velvet rope line, where you’ll be at the whim of the frequently capricious doormen.

"The place reeks of Dallitude -- unless you look like Brad or Angelina, you ain’t getting laid."

You should know: The car parking valet line can turn monstrous during peak hours. Try to snag a spot in the considerably less crowded public lot located next to the House of Blues.
