Best Bowling Emporium

Showplace Lanes, Euless

Old-school bowlers will dig the retro feel of this 52-lane Showplace in Euless.

Who knew there were such wonders in Euless? A bowler's-eye view of one of the alley's at Showplace Lanes.

Find it: 1901 W. Airport Freeway, Euless; 817-283-7144

The back story: The words Euless and Best don’t find themselves in the same sentence very often, but when we’re talkin’ top bowling alley, they fit perfectly. Showplace Lanes, just a stone’s roll from Airport Freeway, is a bowling showplace -- complete with chandeliers and an airport-themed nightclub called Wings. Old-school bowlers will dig the retro feel of the 52-lane house, which caters to league bowlers with deep discounts. But the kids and casual kegglers will like it, too, especially when the lights go out and XTreme bowling gets ramped up. The strobe lights and jaw-rattling music will almost make you forget your in Euless.

Don't leave the builiding without also trying: The Frito Pie and the Mad Wave Motion Theater game – in that order.

"When the lights go out and XTreme bowling gets ramped up ... the strobe lights and jaw-rattling music will almost make you forget your in Euless."

Best time to go: Wanna bowl till your arm falls off? Try Sunday mornings. Wanna drink and bowl in the dark and maybe get arrested? Friday and Saturday nights will do just fine.

Honorable mentions: Alley Cats, Arlington: A full-tilt family fun center with laser tag, climbing wall, giant arcade games and, oh yes, bowling.

Cowtown Bowling Palace, Fort Worth: The definition of the old school alley -- it’s where Fred Flintsone would take Wilma on a first date.
