The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza gives visitors an eerie sense of being suspended in time.

The back story: Technically, you can't look out the window through which Lee Harvey Oswald shot President John F. Kennedy on that fateful morning in November 1963; it's enclosed behind a glass case that contains a faithful replica of how the Book Depository might have looked that afternoon. But there are still plenty of other windows in this museum, overlooking Dealey Plaza in Dallas, allowing you to gain a new understanding of one of the most seismic events of the 20th century.
While you're there: The entire museum offers a fascinating, if somewhat facile, exploration of the Kennedy presidency and the impact of his assassination — but the exhibits devoted to assorted assassination conspiracy theories are a particular treat.
Best time to go: Avoid the crowds during the weekdays; you'll want plenty of time to explore the exhibits and consider Oswald's actions from every available point-of-view.
