Hottest Scene Restaurant

Screen Door, Dallas

Hottest Scene Restaurant

DFW.com

Dallas' beautiful people come out to play on the patio of Screen Door.

Find it: 1722 Routh St , Dallas; 214-720-9111; www.screendoordallas.com

The dish: Opened in late May 2008, this place instantly became the must-go spot. (Indeed, the place is so insidery that it’s virtually impossible to spot the sign from the street.) Tucked into the pretty new One Arts Plaza in the shadows of the Meyerson Symphony Center, this luxe, Southern-style bar and restaurant reminds one of posh, contemporary places in New Orleans. The signature mint julep, served in gorgeous silver cups, blends peach and mango purees with a lemon-mint syrup and Maker’s Mark, with a sprig of mint, of course. Also high on the list are low-country shrimp and grits and fried chicken and waffles.

Don't wander away without also trying: The watermelon cosmo will cool you off nicely, and there’s afternoon tea, too. As for Sunday brunch, try the Vanilla bean flapjacks with peach-blueberry chutney and brandied syrup or the Smoked Brisket Hash with fried farm eggs and charred tomato salsa.

"The place is so insidery that it’s virtually impossible to spot the sign from the street."

You should know: Valet parking is a must. And be prepared for a long line just to get in the circular driveway. (After all, it wouldn’t be a scene if it was easy to get in.)

Honorable mentions: Fearings, Dallas; Stephan Pyles, Dallas; The Porch, Dallas
