Stuffed with almond cream and a pair of very dark chocolate batons, this croissant tastes like the breakfast food of the Gods.

Find it: 316 S Main St., Grapevine; 817-424-4333; www.themainbakery.com

The dish: A tiny French gem tucked into one of the vintage brick buildings in the main drag of historic downtown, this bakery and bistro transports your palate to a sidewalk café somewhere in Paris. The flaky, buttery croissant is stuffed with almond cream and a pair of very dark chocolate batons, and the top is decorated with sliced, roasted almonds and a scattering of powdered sugar.

Don't wander away without also trying: The cheese Danish is lovely, too. If you want a whole breakfast, have a fluffy omelet stuffed with roasted onion, spinach, asiago and mushrooms.

"The bourbon-chocolate pecan pie is also outrageously good and makes a perfect hostess gift."
