BEST HAPPY HOUR

Taverna, Fort Worth and Dallas

Good grub, discounted drinks and prowling manthers and cougars: What else could you ask for?

Taverna happy hour

DFW.com/Jeffery Washington

Taverna's happy hour prices on drinks and gourmet pizzas attract an interesting mix of business minglers.

Find it: 450 Throckmorton Street, Fort Worth: 817-885-7502. 3210 Armstrong Avenue, Dallas: 214-520-9933. www.tavernabylombardi.com.

The vibe: You wouldn’t normally think of an Italian restaurant for happy hour but each evening you’ll find businessmen in their suits just leaving the office, knocking back drinks -- along with sequined cougars on the prowl.

Happy hour is Monday through Friday, 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., and includes half-price appetizers and gourmet pizzas. Well drinks, draught beer, Bellinis, House red and white wine are $3.

It's only $3 for everything from Bellinis to draught beer.

An appetizer, pizza and a drink can get you out the door without paying more than $20. (Not too shabby at all, considering that at any other time, you’d probably pay double.)

You should also know: Drink specials don’t stop with the end of the work week. Bottomless Bellinis and Mimosas are offered Saturdays and Sundays for $5 with Taverna’s excellent and affordable brunch.

Honorable mentions: Blue Mesa Grill, five locations throughout DFW. Happy Hour: M-F, 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
