Tune in to something new: Regina Spektor
We get it: Regina Spektor is an acquired taste. Not everyone digs her spunky blend of finger-fracturing, piano-based melodies and odd-bird lyrics, but it’s difficult to single out another modern pop songwriter with Spektor’s visibility who delivers albums like her latest, Far. Like a great novel, Far creates a world of its own, unbound by rules or convention. (Some snipe that she’s quirky for the sake of it, but those wags might be confusing her with Lady Gaga.) In a five-star review, we called Far "an endlessly rich album, strewn with fantastic, idiosyncratic and largely accessible pop songs that grow more endearing with each listen." Her live performance will likely engender a similar response.
