Lone Star Sounds: Rocket Summer's EP should be enough to launch it

Colleyville’s Bryce Avary, who performs as the Rocket Summer, has an almost preternatural gift for gleaming pop hooks. His songs have an evanescent lift and irresistible punch, leading to the question: Why isn’t this guy in heavy rotation and playing sold-out arena shows? Chalk it up to the glut of similarly positioned, quasi-emo acts that clog the pages of Alternative Press; if the four songs on Avary’s just-released You Gotta Believe EP are any indication, his forthcoming album Of Men and Angels (the follow-up to his 2007 major-label debut, Do You Feel) should catapult him to the next level. Produced by Avary, these four songs, culled from Angels, are nearly blinding in their polish and precision. Highlights include the title track and Light; Avary will air out tunes new and old Nov. 26, with support from fellow North Texans Forever the Sickest Kids, at Dallas’ House of Blues.
