Tuesday’s Agenda: Read about 'Top Dogs,’ listen to Tom Russell or get a job tip
Must love pets
In their new book Top Dogs and Their Pets (Pediment Publishing, $24.95), Dallas photographers David Woo and Richard Pru showcase fabulous portraits of famous faces from politics, entertainment, sports, arts and culture — and the animals they live with and love. The book has a heavy emphasis on Texans, including Sandra Brown, Ty Murray, Anne Marion, Pam Minnick, Jimmy Johnson, James Baker, Laura Bush, Kinky Friedman, Owen Wilson and Dr. Phil. Also featured in the book, and on hand to sign copies at the event: Hugh Aynesworth, Dean Fearing, Pat Green, Kathy Whitworth, B.J. Thomas and Daddy O’Wade. It’s a purr-fect gift for animal lovers, because a portion of the proceeds goes to animal-rescue operations and shelters. 6:30-8:30 p.m., Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St., Fort Worth.
For a song
For close to 40 years, singer-songwriter Tom Russell has been populating his carefully crafted tunes with quirkily detailed musical cameos. He writes the kind of involving material that has inspired everyone from Guy Clark to Johnny Cash, who have covered many of his songs. Russell, who was born in L.A. but now resides in West Texas, comes to McDavid Studio (301 E. Fifth St., in downtown Fort Worth) for a concert at 8 tonight. Tickets are $25. 817-212-4280; www.basshall.com.
Who’s hiring?
If you’re a professional who’s looking for a job or a new career, check out "Who’s Hiring Now?" tonight, a career fair sponsored by the Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. It’s set up as a reception, with light refreshments and a chance to talk to employers about job opportunities. It’s 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the gallery at the Fort Worth Central Library, 500 W. Third St. There’s no fee for applicants, but bring copies of your résumé and dress for an interview. For more information, call the chamber at 817-625-5411.
