Turn your radio on

If you’re the type of person who bemoans the way that radio stations play the same songs over and over, or who doesn’t listen to commercial radio because it’s not relevant to your musical tastes, you might want to tune in to 91.7 FM beginning at 7 a.m. Monday. That’s when KKXT/91.7 FM, which will be known on-air as KXT, will launch. A spinoff of KERA/90.1 FM, the new noncommercial station promises an eclectic music mix with such semi-popular, critic-geek faves as Elvis Costello, Lucinda Williams and Wilco, as well as such national shows as Acoustic Cafe, Putumayo World Music and American Routes. We’re not saying this is for everyone, but it will provide local airplay to many artists and songs that don’t necessarily get it elsewhere. For a more full preview, check out http:// kxt.org.

Sharp-dressed men

ZZ Top calls to mind beards, Texas, and the occasional song with a suggestive title. The group doesn’t necessarily call to mind auto racing, till you realize that the car featured on the cover of 1983’s Eliminator (and in a bunch of videos) was a hot rod. ZZ Top will headline the American Racing Custom Wheels Pre-Race Celebrations on Sunday before the NSCS Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. The concert is free for folks who attend the race, although $79 will buy you a cherry "mosh pit" seat. Entertainment begins at 11:45 a.m. Sunday, with ZZ Top taking the stage at 12:30 for a one-hour show. For more info, call 817-215-8500 or go to http://www.texasmotorspeedway.com/Tickets.

Day at the museum

Round up the kids and head for the Amon Carter Museum this afternoon. It’s Family Fun Day, with stories and activities to help the whole family to interact with works in the museum. Today the theme is "Way Out West." Family Fun Day is 1-4 p.m. and it’s free. The museum is at 3501 Camp Bowie Blvd.; 817-738-1933.
