Videofest kicks off with lights, camera and lots of action Saturday night at Dallas’ Angelika Film Center with the Guts and Glory Film Race, in which eight teams will be given 24 hours to shoot a three-minute movie. The films will be viewed Nov. 6 as part of the festival. But there’s a lot more to the event celebrating narrative fiction and documentary video work. The music docs sound especially cool. They include Dig Deep (Deep Ellum’s musical roots); R.E.M.: This Is Not a Show (chronicling European rehearsals in 2007); Gogol Bordello: Non-Stop (about the gypsy punk band); Speakingin Code (about techno music fans); 72 Musicians (the lives of indie bands over a four-day period); and Bubblegum Music Is the Naked Truth (about late ’60s/early ’70s bubble-gum pop). For a schedule, go to www.videofest.org
